The Grand Rue and Rue de la Chaussée form one long high street in Mons, undoubtedly the most popular axis for fun shopping. The Grand Rue is 175 meters long and includes some 48 shops. The Rue de la Chaussée is a bit longer, with 65 shopping units, leading onto the Grand Place.
Notable tenants along both streets are C&A, H&M, M&S Mode, Hunkemöller, Casa, Club, Celio, Jack & Jones, Planet Parfum and Primark. For both streets, the rents lie between 350 and 400 EUR/m² for prime retail with a standard unit size of 200 m². In top weeks, more than 100.000 people were counted.
The mix consists of locals, shoppers from nearby villages and travelers who are attracted by the charm of the historical city. Mons has been recognized as a touristic destination, which means that shops in the city center can open on Sundays.
